Replacement speaker recommendation for RAMSA WS-A80?
« on: March 01, 2013, 02:45:01 PM »

Hi

We're replacing our old RAMSA WS-A80 speakers. I couldn't find any place that sells their new WS-M80E-K models. Any recommendations on a similar sized/spec'ed speaker? These will be used in a "portable" way (constantly setup/taken down, in classrooms, small auditorioums, etc). Any recommendation is appreciated.

The old RAMSA's specs are:

Type: two-way, bass reflex
Input Impedance: 8 ohms
Power handling Capacity: 160W continuous; 80 W RMS
Sound Pressure Level: 92 dB (1W, 1m)
Frequency Response: 65 to 20,000 Hz
Crossover frequency: 2,500 Hz
Speaker: Woofer: 20 cm (8”) cone speaker
Dispersion: 60 o vertical, 60 o horizontal
Dimensions: 17 1/16” (W) x 11 1/8”(H) x 9 5/16 (D)
Weight: 17 lb (7.5 kg)

Thanks
Andy

I'm going to suggest Yorkville YX10  or YX12. Nice traidoff between price/quality/durability/weight.

And the the 5 year warranty should not be overlooked.

Many years ago I used the smaller Ramsa portable speakers frequently and thought they were quite good. For reason(s) unknown to me, Ramsa is no longer sold in N America. They have quite a few products that would be well worth considering if this was not the case.

Check out the EV Zx1. It is a remarkable speaker for its size, cost and weight. Warranty is 5 years.

It does not provide the same coverage as the Ramsa WS A80, but this may not be an issue.
