Pearl Microphones
« on: March 22, 2013, 02:39:49 PM »

I just purchased a Pearl handheld cardioid dynamic from a GC for $49.99. I asked the salesman (phone order) if there was a model# on the mic, there wasn't. I know a bit of the history of Peal/Milab and also know their mics are quite expensive,at $49.99 I'm wondering if perhaps Pearl drums marketed vocal mics?   I can't post a photo as I just ordered it, anyone have any info that might help identify it? All I can tell you is that it looks like a typical 70's, silver finished vocal mic with an on-off switch, large basket capsule and slender body. If anyone knows some sites I can check with, please let me know. I'd like to think I scored a sleeper but......................... I like oddball mics anyway.

I don't know anything about it.  I just thought I'd contribute by posting the pic.

Pearl is not the most common brand, but a high quality Swedish manufacturer usually found in European studios. The brand is spreading and I have only seen one Pearl mic, but if I remember correctly the quality and sound was above average.

I have posted a link to their site, and  the mic you have does not appear as one of their products, and that brings me to the conclusion, based on price and appearance, that what you have is a Chinese product not made by Pearl.

Maybe I am missing something here.

You ordered a "product" (it could be anything) you have not heard-and know nothing about.

THEN you start to ask questions about it?

That just seems odd to me-or maybe I am missing something.

The daughter gave me a gift card to GC for $50. As that doesn't really buy a lot, I chose to indulge myself on my love for oddball mics. That's why I wasn't really concerned about exact details before buying the mic.

I've since learned that Pearl Drums seems to have marketed a few mics back in the 70's-80's. Although I still can't find an example of my mic, the cosmetic comparisons are obvious so it appears most likely to be a Japanese mic (perhaps Sony?), regardless, I'm sure I'll enjoy it.

It's from your daughter, it filled a need, it's the best mic in the world. Everything my daughters give me is the best in the world, and I'm sure everything your daughter gives you is also.
