A $1000 windfall burning a hole in your pocket to spend on yourself.
 
If you're a guitar player would you spend it on guitar stuff, or sound equipment. And what would you buy?

Buying a collectible guitar or amp, is not crazy and a more fun way to hedge against inflation. Some modest amount of gold is insurance against wild currency valuation swings.

If it really is a windfall I would basically blow it. Not justifications about future value here.

While I usually have a short list of things to buy, I would use a windfall to change my day to day routine. $1000 sounds about right for a long weekend getaway. Personally I would fly to Florida for a couple days of flyfishing.

Cut out the flight and $1000 can really go a long way. Get a nice hotel in the city. Spend the days in museums. Eat in nice restaurants. Go to shows at night.
