If we're talking investments, energy stocks seem to be a safe (and lucrative) choice these days.  They've consistently been the strongest perfomers in my portfolio.

If we're talking investments, energy stocks seem to be a safe (and lucrative) choice these days.  They've consistently been the strongest perfomers in my portfolio.

While out of favor with some, energy will always be in demand. Contrary to disincentives we are on the verge of energy surpluses thanks to fraking, and use of advanced technology like horizontal drilling and improved mapping of reserves. We are just getting our oil pipelines sorted to get oil down to the gulf region so it can be refined (and lots of refined product exported). Natural gas is still in the early days and infrastructure to get it from where we found it, to where we can use it effectively is still challenged. We are still flaring off (burning) way too much NG we could be using with more extensive pipelines. For the global warming concerned, we have reduced our global warming footprint far more from using NG in place of coal, because it is cheaper.. than other country's regulatory approaches.

I have a stock position in Exxon as a combination play on oil profits now, and NG profits later. I have already sold off about half of my home builder stocks since they have already bounced (I bought them a few years ago).

One investment play that is still early is payroll services like ADP and Paychex. In good times they profit from the carry interest on the float from small company payrolls, and increasing employment numbers, if/when that recovery finally happens. They are one of the beneficiaries of increasing interest rates (along with CC companies), so out of favor now, but someday, hopefully in my lifetime, interest rates and employment will go back up.

Using the philosophy of buy low and sell high.. now might be a time to sell oil and buy ADP/PAYX, while energy will stay high for a very long time, and the employment recovery is still a long ways off, so own both (I do).

Gold is just a safety hedge for a small percentage of any portfolio JIC the wheels fall completely off our economy, not a trade or investment, and arguably expensive right now.

Apparently Behringer X32s are all the rage.  Wait a month and the X13 will be out for $999, I expect.

Not a chance in hell Tom, but thanks for the suggestion.

With gold prices sitting at near record highs, now is the time to sell, not buy.

Back to Bob, how about one of these bad boys?

It's one of the best guitar delays on the Earth, and you'd have about half of your scatch left over.

I have a pair of AD-9 delays already. Thanks for the suggestion.

In at least half seriousness, how about my XV-5080?  You mentioned interest in the past.  I'm cleaning house this year and it needs to go.

Buying a collectible guitar or amp, is not crazy and a more fun way to hedge against inflation. Some modest amount of gold is insurance against wild currency valuation swings.

JR

Now we're headed in the right direction. I have plenty of amps and enough guitars, but maybe something light with P-90s like an SG special. Or maybe a pair of monitor if I can find some cheap enough.
