RF Spectrum affecting comms systems
« on: January 24, 2013, 05:33:50 PM »

Here is an interesting article, though not anything new, from Dan Daley.  What all this spectrum congestion means is that coordinators have more work and become essential to many shows.  Works for me!

I'm always happy to see the intercom stuff up in the WiFi bands because it means more room for all the TV IFB/microphone systems.  But I wonder if the teams will start pushing back down into UHF if things get bad enough.

The Tempest 2.4gHz systems have gotten a bad rap of destroying the wifi.  No matter how heavy the wifi band is occupied, there is little or no affect on the Tempest, as long as its antennas are not near any accesspoints.  The worst it affects wifi might be a 10% slowdown, not nearly enough to stop wifi from being effective.
