I Need a Delay
« on: January 22, 2013, 05:56:15 pm »

I need a delay (stereo) for some delay stacks. I need at least 1 second (will probably use 200-500ms per side). I could just buy a DriveRack 260 and get a bunch of other stuff that I *might* use once in a while; just wonder if there is a better choice.

FWIW, I'm driving some PRX 625 speakers. They're being used for a "movie nite" rig to provide audio for the movies shown on large lawns. Mains stack is PRX 625 plus subs (currently Mpro 415, but will probably be PRX 618s XLR by the time I put in the delay stacks; note that there will not be subs at the delay positions). The main stacks are about 50-75' apart (don't have to worry about comb filtering so much); what I'm really trying to do is get the volume down near the screen but still allow people to hear the movie at 200-250' out.

Unit should be stand-alone. I've got a tiny 4-channel Behringer mixer with a mic and a DVD player plugged into it. In the past this has fed a couple XTi 4000 amps (and Mpro 225/418s speakers). Now it's going to feed a pair of PRX 625/618s XLF plus a couple line 6 transmitters (which feed the delay stacks).

Thanks,
Randy Hyde

A used Rane AD22d will run under $200 and get you 999ms.  A used Peavey VSX26 will get you a little under 700ms, runs $200 - $300 and provides more capabilities for about half what a used Driverack 260 will cost.

This is one of the things I use.  Here is a Buy It Now for one fifty

OP specifies stereo.  Also, this is a discontinued item.

they're still available on ebay, use two for stereo, just a thought

The Rane piece is an excellent delay, very transparent and accurate with temperature/humidity compensation.

The Shark?  Not so much.  I'll admit my experience with them was in the first generation of the product.  I ended up taking them back.  Not one of Behringers successes.  I presume that's why they're discontinued.

+1 for the Rane. Find one on ebay and you'll never regret buying it.

+1 on the VSX26.  It does long delays well, and is also a handy tool for other crossover thingies.  It will not fail during operation.

No remote control, however.
