Comparison: (1) EV QRX 218 sub vs. (2) QSC KW 181

Compare: (2) EV QRX218 subs powered by a Crown VZ5002 vs. (4) QSC KW181's.

While I've looked over the specs of these and own both I'm looking for additional pros and cons of using these set-ups. One obvious advantage is the lower AC draw with the double QSC's and yes, the Crown EV combination has additional wattage. Let's see your comments and evaluations for each.

It is possible that the QRX will slightly out volume the KW's.

Depending on your needs, most small venues indoors (<300) can be handled by a single pair of KW181's.

Each KW181 can be handled by a single (strong) person (I can move my PRX618S-XLF by myself, but it is cumbersome).

The QRX's are much heavier.

If moving them isn't an issue, I suspect that the QRX's can be made to sound slightly better (depending on your expertise in using the cross-over, eq and limiters).

I normally use double 18 subs that have wheels on the back...easy to move, can pile stuff on them and they are high enough for a top box with no pole. Small footprint and more output when needed...which can never hurt.

Depending upon your vehicle and venue situation, it can be easier to get a 218 in and out of a van than a single 18 without a ramp. Just roll it up next to the door and tip it onto the van floor.

+1 I move my 4 SRX728s this way by myself.

I've used both set ups  several times in past 2 years.   I settled on the KW's .   I do not miss  the heavy amp racks  and it is definately  nice to be scale down to a single 18" box when called for.   The  reduced AC  was also a huge, positive factor at many gigs for me especially   where number of circuits were limited.  The peace of mind of not having to sweat  throwing a breaker  was such  a plus !     Brent
