no, I own 4 slx and 4 ulx.  Pad isnt needed for speaking but definitely always needed for singing.

Are you using 8 channels of PGX-D? Shure was jumping my case for using 6 although I haven't had any RF issues whatsoever.

it only becomes a major problem if all your wireless is in the same frequency band. however in saying that i have seen problems with 4 within the same band.
