I'm sure this will turn into something worthwhile:

If nothing else, a place to "practice PA"
Actually could be used for experience.  As long as that person doesn't really expect to see a nickle out of it...

I got a call for something like this once - "We need a lighting/video "artist" to do a "visual backdrop" for a showcase.  Great exposure, and if we like you, we might pay for your parking.  The best part is your work will be shown to 200 other people who will expect you to work for free", my reading between the lines added.  I can't remember if I was polite enough to hold the laughing until I hung the phone up or not.

YIKES! Regardless of pay, I would NEVER work for anyone who thinks it is acceptable to put an (And/Or) between the words sound-guy and DJ. On the other hand, maybe I should give them a call, I really don't have enough experience running sound "Borards".

One of us locals should call in a $400 walkup bid then the rest of us can blowup his answering machine with an upwards bidding war.

I was thinking that this would be a fun LAB get-together project... one of us call up and take the gig, and then maybe 10 of us show up for the actual gig... we bring all the right gear, go completely over the top and absolutely knock the gig out of the park. Kinda like one of those restaurant make over shows - we provide them with a bill for what real production would actually cost, and agree to do their one night for free if they promise to NEVER EVER put on a half-assed show (with no pay for the sound-guy) like this again.

We just need someone here to volunteer as the crazy, ranting Gordon Ramsey type character for the night... any takers?
