Yorkville EF408 repair
« on: December 09, 2012, 06:18:51 PM »

Hi- i have a pair of Yorkville Elite EF408s. I am 99.9% sure that one 15" speaker has gone out. The speaker is a B&C 15PE40-8  I believe the magnet has shifted? I haven't confirmed anything yet but am looking for advice on where to get a replacement speaker. I found a RCF 15/244-8 that was used by Yorkville. Will this be a suitable replacement? I want them to sound the same so any and all advice will be greatly appreciated :)  THANKS!!  Does anybody know when the 408's were discontinued? These are in great shape  and are well worth repairing the one..

If the magnet truly shifted, a simple recone may not suffice.

I toasted the woofer on one of my Yorkville e168's a couple of years and purchased a reconed woofer from:
http://santonaudio.ca/
It works well and was not too expensive.  I just popped it in.....
It is my understanding that they are quite familiar with reconing Yorkville drivers..
Give 'em a shout.

Dave- I'm really unsure about the magnet shifting. That was just a guess. I had a EV speaker that got damaged in shipping and that's what it was. I'm thinking(again) that with a zero reading on this speaker and not the other that it is the voice coil. Sounds like that would be better if it is. Thanks!
