Mix wizard 3 issues and mixwizard 1 issue
« on: June 29, 2012, 01:04:30 am »

Is their a known ribbon cable issue with the mixwizard 3, my ch 11 left keeps coming in and out and my ch 15 post fader aux 3 as well.
Also is it normal for a mixwizzard one to make obnoxious noise when you engage the global phantom?

Hi, you can try adjusting the ribbon and see.  Of all models of mixers that have ribbon cables, there will occasionally be a unit that needs tweaking.  The Mixwizards aren't any better or worse off in that regard.  There are just many of them out there in the field.

I haven't noticed that the Phantom power circuit itself make any noises on its own.  Perhaps this is ribbon-related?
Is this happening without any phantom devices connected?   They would likely make all sorts of noise if connected and the Phantom is switched on or off.

Do you mute the channel before you turn on/off phantom power?

I seem to remember that phantom power pops, even with the channels muted, was a complaint of the early MizWizes.  Do you get noise just plugging in a condenser, even if phantom power is already on?

The only other issue I can think of is the ground connections on the faders are not 100% solid, often causing the faders to only attenuate by 10% or so, at the bottom of their travel.  A few minutes with a soldering iron can cure that one.

The wizzard 1 is global phantom. You hace to use a pen tip or similar to activate it. unless the master faders are off it makes a obnoxoius noise regardless is a phantom mic is plugged in kinda a ocilation. one its on it works solid. It has the usual plasic insert problem but as long as i use a light weight insert cable like a hosa its not a problem.

The wizzard 3 problem is some what itermittent popping up @ unforunate times- nothing i can t work around but its annoying
