Need instructions to wire a Allen & Heath console
« on: September 03, 2012, 09:46:51 PM »

Greetings ,
I am no FOH pro at all and was asked to set help set up/ wire an Allen & Heath GL2400.Here is what I am working with

         1x Allen & Heath GL2400 24-input console
         3x DBX 231 1/3 octave stereo EQ
         2x DBX 166XL stereo compressor/limiter/gate
         1x DBX 1066 stereo compressor/limiter/gate
                            1x Behringer mdx2100 stereo compressor/gate
                            1x Yamaha spx990 fx processor
                       On stage
2x QSC RMX 5050 power amplifier
         1x QSC RMX 1450
4x JBL MRX 512M monitor wedge
1x JBL JRX 100 Drum monitor wedge
1x JBL JRX 115 Drum monitor wedge
         1X JBL Sub
It seems the the 3 dbx 231's were wired in as inserts for the stage monitors as well as the spx and the sub. Is this the most ideal way to run this system?
I would like to completely retire the whole set up as it is a mess currently and really have no experience with actual wiring a live console.
Can any provide a detailed install for the above components please?
Thank you in advance

You first need to change your display name to show your real name, no handles here.  Professional courtesy. ;>)  Otherwise, the mods will lock the thread until you do so.

Why did "they" ask you to wire up the system if you no nothing about doing so?  This is not a simple task, nor is it the simplest of systems-there are a few ways things could get set up, depending on what is needed.

Break it down-are all four MRX 512m loudspeakers used for FOH, or are two used for monitors?  What model JBL sub?  Is it self powered?

Also, there is an applications guide for the GL2400 mixer which shows various system set ups-I strongly urge you to also read that, and have a go at setting the system up yourself, and come back here with specific questions.

Another good basic source of info is the Yamaha published book on live sound.

Best regards,

John

Sound reinforcement handbook - cheap and worth it. Probably the best technical book I've ever read, though parts of it aren't light.
http://www.amazon.com/Sound-Reinforcement-Handbook-Gary-Davis/dp/0881889008/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1346784293&sr=8-1&keywords=sound+reinforcement+handbook

Your Mixer's Documentation can be found here:
http://www.allen-heath.com/uk/products/pages/productdetails.aspx?CatId=GLSeries&ProductId=GL2400

I use the GL2400 as well - the documentation should get you going in the right path.

EDIT: Oops, I read through Johns post again, and he recommends the same thing. Either way, do check out the links, they are great resources.
