crest pro 9200 behaviour under sagging voltage.
« on: February 22, 2012, 08:06:22 am »

Dear All,

Am considering purchasing this amp but would like some input on how it performs under less than ideal voltages, efficiency etc. I have qsc plx amps but am not happy with their behaviour and performance in less than ideal power situations. I got a qsc 4050hd which works great but its too heavy. I need this amp to drive a pair of ev qrx 218 subs stereo. Any input greatly appreciated.

No experience with the Crest but have a look at the QSC PL380.  Very light on the current draw with will help keep from having voltage drops.  Great performance on subs and it is light weight.

Can you better define "less than ideal"?  Do you mean more than 10% below it's rated requirement voltage wise or do you mean without enough available current (or both)

Conrad,  the handful  of times I've used  the Qrx218's  I utilized my Crest CA12  which seemed to do very well  with a standard  wall outlet.   The Crest  CA series amps are heavy  but I never had any electrical issues.  I've read several  posts on this website stating  going to a QSC PL380  or a Crown  I-tech 8000  made both Qrx and JBL SRX728's  really come alive.  Use the search function  and you may get a wealth of info.  Cheers,  Brent
