High Pass Filter
« on: February 15, 2012, 07:17:18 pm »

I run Aux controlled subs. I have a MixWiz3 Board.. Should I still use the High Pass filter on the channel strips where vocals are concerned? I have Yorkville NX55p tops and  Yorkville LS720P Subs. I run the filters on the NX55P.
Thanks Again!!

Sure, you can still engage the HPFs. The HPFs on your Yorkvilles are not brick walls, and if you are using an inserted compressor for example you don't want the low end rumbling setting it off. FX sends, and etc, HPF filter is still a plenty good idea IMO.

Agreed. Use them on everything except stuff that really needs more low end in your tops. Extra lows you don't need will work your woofers harder and use up valuable headroom. I use them on everything but kick, bass, keys, floor tom, cajon, laptop/iPod feeds, etc. And often fixed HPFs aren't adequate in my opinion, especially the ones that are less than 100Hz. Gotta love the sweepable HPF.

In the OPs case with fixed HPF @ 100, the York tops with built-in HPF and aux fed subs, you can go ahead and put it on every channel you don't intend to send to the sub-aux. It serves to enhance the HPF on the York tops, increase headroom on other busses, send HPF'd signal to the mons & FX, & etc etc.
