Anyone seen the Puck 3?
« on: February 02, 2011, 12:53:26 am »

Just saw this:

  http://www.performanceledlighting.com/products/led-par-can-l   ights.html?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl &product_id=105&category_id=9

9 three watt tricolor LED's per light
$199 per light
6500 lux at 1 meter
RGBA

The specs look killer.

Any real life experience with it?

<edit> it is RGB, not RGBA there are errors on Blizzards's web site

Their website is wrong, they are only RGB, not RGBA.

Still like to hear from anyone who's used it.

I love how fast lighting & LED technology is progressing!

Hey, Matt from performance LED here.  The RGBA up in the top right hand corner of that page is the next product listing shortcut.  Although, I do need to do some editing on that product description!  Yes indeed they are only RGB, but according to Will from blizzard, they will do a superior white to other RGBs.  He did a new video comparing the differences in all the Puck models:

I am going to get my hands on a few and try them out at my next band gig.  I am curious to see how they compare to my existing RGBAW par cans for front lighting.

Matt,

On your website the Puck (standard Puck, not the Puck 3 or Puck RGBA) is listed with a rating of 2220 lux at 1 m

On Blizzard's site, it is listed as 3920 lux at 1m

Who is right.  (My guess is your site is correct)

I will have to double check on that.  We get all of our information from Blizzard, so what's on our site may be preliminary data that is now outdated.  Also a possibility that the data entry monkeys we employ didn't have enough coffee that day and put it in wrong!  The product manual on the Regular puck states 3920, the RGBA is supposed to be 3000, and the new tri is 6500. Sorry for the confusion!

Oh, and just saw your other post on the new forum.  I am always suspect on these lux specs anyways, seems to me like it's real easy to fudge the numbers to look better etc.  I would go by real world experiences like the other poster about the slimpars.  If the slimpars are brighter, they should be because they are $50 more expensive (map price anyway).  You could make the argument that for another $20 (again MAP pricing) you can get the Puck 3s which are probably twice as bright.  Your mileage may vary of course...

btw, the Performance LED site shows the Puck 3 as being a RGBA light using 10mm LED's.  Might want to fix that.
