Need to find a POE Infrared network camera
« on: July 03, 2009, 08:50:44 AM »

Help me!

I need to find a relatively inexpensive power over Ethernet capable network camera with infrared night vision.

Anyone know of anything?

Hmmm that could work. But does it need external IR LEDs? Or will it work in low light without them?

You would need external IR - the problem being that if you need to power IR with POE, you will not have much IR power, so area coverage will be small.

I have seen very few with IR and POE (cheap Chinese), but might be cheaper and easier to provide an alternate IR source than find a camera with IR and POE.

The weak link is powering up the LED's using just the PoE.  I have tried this in some theater applications and we always seem to need to add a few extra emitter panels to make it work.  I guess it might depend upon how far you are trying to shoot.

These cameras work in very low light and are color. The picture quality is much better than IR illuminated cameras, which are technically not infrared cameras.

For very low light conditions order with the intesifier option.
