So who's running 2 qrx212's per side???
« on: June 25, 2009, 08:42:43 AM »

My second pair are on the way.

I know from messing around with the pair that I have, I'll need to make some serious changes to my tunings when doubled up.

Unfortunately I do not have access to smaart or the like so I'll need to find a generous soul to give me his/her settings as a starting point and tweak the rest of the way by ear.

I'll be running passive by the way with processing done in xti and/or itech.

So, anyone feel like sharing today?

And thanks for the good deal on the boxes. You know who you are. I've already sent another person your way for some more!

Thanks,
Jim

I have ran 2 QRx212 a side a few times; and I am using the "1 per side" settings.  I also haven't changed the horns from the "1 per side" set-up, I don't tight pack them; I put about a 2x4" width between the cabs with the spines touching.

If you rotate the horns opposite of each other, then you can be tight pack the QRx’s together.

The DC-One doesn’t have different settings for 1 or multiples per side.

I'm using: EV QRx212 over JBL SRX718s(2) with Crown IT's and MRX512m & MRX525 on monitors with XTi's; all controlled by Yamaha LS9-32.  I have a bunch of other stuff too.

Jim,

When Rob and I run 2 a side, bi-amp, ~8" splade, even without rotating the horns we had no adjustments in the DSP. They sounded very good - with both rock and acoustic music.

I just went to bi-amp mode with mine (thanks Mike Pyle on the PLX1104 deal) - I am very happy with the results over passive mode. I thought they performed very well at an outside Laconia bike week gig.

I've run 2 per side quite a few times. I find that they need little to no extra EQ. There's a little extra low mid coupling that needs to be EQ'd out, but otherwise, they sound fine.

Bi-amping them makes all the difference though. You get some added output and way more control of their sound.

In the quick "2 up" messing around I did, there seemed to be some humps that really stood out. As Even noted it was toward the low/low mid.

Maybe I'm making a bigger deal out of it than it really is. At the time, I didn't really have time to do any serious tweaking.

Hope to find out soon.

Assuming no pattern overlap above frequencies that can effectively couple (at least within the operating pattern of the array) you should need no more than a very wide bandwidth (like 2 octaves) low-mid (like 250Hz) cut (like 3dB).

When I ran 2x per side, I pulled 265 Hz down 4 dB with Q=2.03, 5k down and additional 3 dB, and 11 k down 2 dB from the original settings.  Didn't need much, and some of that was due to the room.
